High-profile, Texas-based celebs announce their own divorce

One of the most difficult types of divorce is the one no one saw coming. When a divorce occurs between two people whom everyone else thought were supremely happy all along, the legal issues that arise can be just as complicated as those which occur between two antagonistic spouses.

Texans may be familiar with rodeo star Ty Murray and his wife, folk singer Jewel. Earlier this month Jewel announced the pair's plans to divorce via her blog, noting that both she and her spouse had wanted to be the ones to share the news themselves. Whenever a high asset divorce occurs between a high-profile couple, rumors and gossip can quickly make a difficult situation even tougher. By putting themselves in charge of the information about their personal lives, though, they may be setting an example for other couples in the spotlight.

Unlike other celebrity couples, Jewel and Murray had been together for a relatively long time. They married in 2008, but prior to that had been a couple for ten years. They have one son together who was born in 2011. During their marriage, they lived with their son on a ranch in Stephenville, Texas.

While she didn't cite specific reasons in her lengthy post, Jewel noted that the overarching reason for the divorce was that both she and her husband's growth had become stifled during their marriage. As many Houston residents know, couples can and do grow apart and when it happens, it's often the fault of neither.

Still, when couples decide to go their own ways, post-divorce planning becomes essential. Furthering one's growth might mean pursuing a new career, relocating, changing one's lifestyle or eventually settling down with someone else. All of these can be affected by the financial or emotional aspects of a divorce settlement, with matters like child custody and property division ranking high in terms of impact. Discussing these concerns with a trusted attorney can begin the process of parting amicably with an eye toward future growth of the entire family unit.
