A divorce from a second spouse can prove just as complex

Houston and the entire state of Texas have long been associated with a culture of strength and independence. Those same values have also been epitomized by actor and director Clint Eastwood, whose second wife recently filed for divorce. In September, Eastwood's wife had filed for legal separation. Divorce papers were filed in October, with irreconcilable differences cited as the formal reason for the split.

Eastwood's 48-year-old wife is a journalist, as well as a reality TV star. With multiple sources of income stemming from the entertainment industry, the resulting high asset divorce could prove complicated. Eastwood's wife seeks not only spousal support, but also full physical custody of the former couple's 16-year-old daughter. The duo tied the knot in 1996, after an assigned interview for a TV news station brought the two together. Previously, Eastwood had been married to his first wife for over 30 years.

Sometimes, Texans assume that during their second divorce, they have already learned all their lessons from an earlier breakup. However, second divorces, especially when sizable assets are concerned, can still give spouses a run for their money. In Texas, if a prenuptial agreement had been signed, proceedings can be fairly straightforward. Nonetheless, sometimes when high net worth is involved, one spouse or the other may attempt to contest the prenuptial agreement, an act that can require extensive legal advice for both parties.

The objectives of a second divorce usually swirl around protecting one's children and property interests. Complex financial litigation may ensue, as parties try to insulate assets from property division. Business appraisal experts and even forensic accounting techniques may need to be utilized, as high net worth couples often have a wide array of financial interests. No matter the assets involved, a family law attorney well-versed in high asset divorce can protect a party's property while keeping matters moving forward.
