When a high-profile couple splits, speculation can run wild

If a Houston couple has amassed some wealth over the years and then decides to part ways, friends and family can spark countless money-related rumors. A high-profile couple's divorce usually invites a good deal of speculation, which isn't necessarily unwarranted. After all, property division can become bitterly contentious if parties disagree on the many financial matters of a high asset divorce.

Many Texas residents might be wondering about the costs of divorce these days. While the economy in Texas is generally more promising than in other parts of the country, some celebrity splits have made national headlines recently. One such separation was announced earlier this month, when former Olympian Bruce Jenner's separation from his reality television star wife was publicized. The pair have been married for over 20 years, and both have garnered significant wealth over their decades together.

According to some media reports, it is speculated that there is no prenuptial agreement between the pair. If that's the case, the estimated $125 million fortune between the two of them could be subject to division if they eventually divorce. Since couples rarely separate on the best of terms, property division can become heated. Especially when millions are at stake, couples don't want to take the chance of losing hard-earned money.

Sometimes the speculation over a high asset divorce can influence parties' behavior during a split. For instance, if rumors pop up that one party is "out to get" the other, the other party can become tempted into seeking some sort of revenge upon the other. During the stressful period following a separation announcement it's often helpful for couples to focus on a goal of reaching a fair outcome and reasonable negotiations.
