Ex-wife of golf superstar builds new life after high asset divorce

Elin Nordegren, ex-wife of golfer Tiger Woods and native of Sweden, is literally rebuilding her life after her dramatic split from the athletic powerhouse a few years ago. In one of the country's most high-profile high asset divorces, Nordegren received a $100 million settlement, spending a portion of that building and renovating a beachfront mansion in Florida.

The post-divorce financial activities of celebrities are frequently the targets of media scrutiny. Actor Dennis Quaid, whose third wife was a Texas real estate agent, has stated that being married in the spotlight is much more difficult than it would be otherwise.

Elin Nordegren retreated from the media glare after her 2010 divorce; she and her two children have quietly waited for their oceanfront compound to be completed. With a Swedish flag reportedly flying from the property, it appears their dream home is becoming a welcome reality.

Some reports hint at an elaborate setup, complete with a koi pond, a pool, and even a spa. The 21,000 square foot retreat came with a $12 million price tag, a fraction of the overall settlement.

Elin's former spouse lives in nearby Jupiter, and the two have a son and a daughter together.

With former partners living in such close proximity, the spending of one has the potential to irk the other. However, if one pursues a high asset divorce in the proper manner, the resulting settlement should be perceived as fair and justified.

In some states, including Texas, adultery as a cause of divorce may come up in court. While judges are less concerned with this behavior than they've been in more traditional times, the actions can still affect financial factors. For instance, if one spouse was spending the other's money to carry out an extramarital affair, a family law judge may take that into consideration when divvying-up property and funds later.
