Child Support

Houston, Texas Child Support Lawyer

A parent experiencing a divorce or a separation from the other parent will most likely have concerns about the care and support of the children. The Lincoln Law Firm, PLLC represents parents who are responsible for paying child support as well as parents who are receiving support to care for the children. Our firm is knowledgeable about the guidelines that are used to determine child support payments, the deviations that can be argued in certain situations and the need for child support modification that can arise in the future.

To arrange your consultation to discuss child support, please call The Lincoln Law Firm, PLLC at 281-970-9005 to schedule your consultation. You can also fill out a contact form and someone from our firm will be in touch with you soon.

How is child support determined?

In Texas, child support payments are determined using state guidelines. The parent with whom the child does not live primarily is the "obligor" or "payor." The parent receiving child support is the "obligee" or "payee." The courts look predominantly at the obligor's income to determine support. Attorney Christine Lincoln can, in certain situations, request deviation from the guidelines. This does not occur in every situation and is only sought when appropriate.

Child support is usually deducted automatically from the payor's check, sent to the Attorney General and then distributed to the payee.

How do you request a change in child support (child support modification)?

The Lincoln Law Firm, PLLC also handles requests for modification of support orders. A suit for modification must be based on a change in circumstances of the paying party, the party receiving child support or the child. For example, a change in child custody arrangements can also bring about a request for child support modification.

Whether you are the payor or payee parent, our firm looks forward to helping you. Contact us to schedule your consultation.

Open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please be advised the firms' hourly rate applies to the initial consultation.
